On July 4, 2024, the University of Sulaimani announced the launch of a platform dedicated to the Bologna Process, marking a first for both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. Designed based on the Bologna Process Protocol, the platform represents an innovative step forward in higher education.
Mr. Tawana Saeed, Director of Information Technology, detailed the new system during a press conference. “This platform will implement solutions for all issues related to the Bologna Process, in accordance with Iraqi law and the Bologna Process Protocol,” he said. He emphasized its user-friendly interface, extensive user base, and efficiency. The platform also houses student data from the past five years, covering the entire period since the process began up to the current academic year (2023-2024).
Mr. Saeed highlighted the strategic significance of the Bologna Process, describing it as a transformative change for the University of Sulaimani over the past five years. Additionally, he announced the integration of the Bologna platform with the Moodle system, which will be accessible at the start of the new academic year. Postgraduate students (master’s and doctoral) can already use the platform.
The Moodle system, renowned globally as a leading student management system, has been in continuous development for over 20 years. It offers comprehensive solutions for a wide range of scenarios and is a pioneering tool in higher education institutions worldwide.
The Bologna Process aims to unify higher education systems across Europe, promoting greater convergence and understanding. While primarily a European initiative, its impact has extended to global higher education reforms.
Currently, the platform is utilized by over 70 departments at the University of Sulaimani, encompassing 13,500 classrooms and more than 21,000 students, with nearly one million marks recorded to date.
