US Consul General in Kurdistan Region Visits University of Sulaimani
On July 25, 2024, Professor Dr. Kosar Mohammed Ali, President of the University of Sulaimani, welcomed Mark Straw, the US Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, along with his delegation.
In their meeting, Dr. Kosar briefed the Consul General on the university’s progress and highlighted the vital role of the American Corner and the support it has garnered.
The event included a ceremony with speeches from Consul General Straw, Dr. Bruce Ferguson from the American University of Iraq-Sulaimani, Mr. Hawbir Hama Ali from the American Corner, and Dr. Kosar, who commended the Access program students and expressed confidence in their future.
Dr. Kosar underscored the American Corner’s role in fostering connections with US institutions through educational programs and volunteer opportunities, and shared optimism for future collaborations.
Consul General Straw praised the American Corner’s contributions and the university’s academic progress in his address.
During the ceremony, Dr. Kosar presented Straw with a university shield of honor and a book about Sulaymaniyah’s historical monuments.
The event wrapped up with a tour of the American Corner’s departments, led by the director and attended by 100 Access program students from Halabja.
The American Corner’s goal is to strengthen academic and scientific ties between the University of Sulaimani and US institutions.
