On November 28, 2024, the University of Sulaimani signed a memorandum of understanding with the “Penjwen: Learning City” project to foster collaboration in humanitarian, educational, environmental, and health initiatives. The agreement, signed by Asst. Prof. Dr. Zana Mahmood, Vice President for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, and Haji Habib Mahmood Salih, member of the Executive Board of the project, aims to build a foundation for meaningful cooperation. Dr. Mahmood emphasized the importance of ensuring that the memorandum leads to impactful initiatives, stating, “We hope this document will lead to substantial, collaborative efforts on numerous significant projects.” Mr. Salih expressed his satisfaction with the partnership, highlighting the value of university involvement in educational efforts, and noting, “This project is a humanitarian effort aimed at serving the community, and we are confident that the University of Sulaimani supports any initiative that benefits the nation.” The “Penjwen: Learning City” project, which began in 2018 with a focus on tree planting, has since expanded to include educational, health, and environmental programs, having planted 41,000 trees in Penjwen and engaged 6,700 individuals in various community initiatives.
