The Kurdology Center at the University of Sulaimani hosted a seminar titled “Kurdistan Waiting for the Formation of a State,” delivered by Dr. Mufid Muhammad Nouri, a Kurdish academic based in Britain.
Held on December 15, 2024, in the Dawoud Bek Al-Jaf Hall, the seminar was attended by University of Sulaimani instructors, writers, and intellectuals. Dr. Yassin Rashid commenced the event with an introduction of the speaker, detailing Dr. Mufid’s distinguished academic achievements in economic development, statistics, administration, trade, politics, and state formation, alongside his extensive body of work in both Kurdish and English. Among his notable contributions is his recently published book, “Kurdistan Waiting for the State,” printed by Dar Sardam Publishing in an edition of 1,000 copies.
During the seminar, Dr. Mufid explored the historical challenges faced by nations in achieving statehood, emphasizing that the journey to independence is invariably marked by conflict, struggle, and perseverance. He underscored the importance of addressing the Kurdish statehood question through a scientific and analytical approach, providing insights into the factors hindering its realization. The session concluded with an engaging discussion, where attendees posed questions, shared observations, and offered suggestions.
