On the 20-21 Dec 2015, the Language Center of the University of Sulaimani in cooperation with the Center of Language and Development of the University of Raparin and the Career Centers of both universities, held a joint workshop under the title 'Moving Ahead Together'. The workshop was sponsored by IREX, and aimed at enhancing teaching skills and bringing curricula closer to the market demands. The workshop was attended by the faculty and staff of the English departments and Career Centers of both universities and staffs from Sulaimani Polytechnic University, Halabja, Garmian and Charmo Universities.
Major topics brought under light were 'curriculum development, self- directed learning, the MUSIC model for motivating students' and the need for leadership in higher education as well as topics related to enhancing students' skills for the market including 'teamwork and effective communication. The workshop ended with a heated debate on how technology can play a key role in turning classes into a student centered class.
