University of Sulaimani Delegation visit University of Arkansas and sign cooperation agreement
Directorate of Foreign Relations During an official visit, a delegation from University of Sulaimani headed by President Prof. Dr. Salahalddin Saeed Ali visited both University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) and University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
University of Sulaimani delegation: Prof. Dr. Salahalddin Saeed Ali (President) and Prof. Dr. Bakhtiar Qader Aziz (Dean of Faculty of Science and Science Education) visited UALR on April 11th 2015 and met with Dr. Bakhtiar Qader Aziz’s Split-site PhD student and the external supervisor from UALR.
The progress of the PhD project was discussed and the University of Sulaimani delegation checked out the research laboratories as well as the field work which was very well organized and the project was progressing very well.
University of Sulaimani had previously signed cooperation agreement with University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR).
On April 12th the University of Sulaimani delegation headed to University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where they were warmly received by Vice-President for University Relations and Professor Douglas Rhoads, Director of Cell and Molecular Biology which is one of the advanced centers of Arkansas university, and Dr. Adnan Al-Rubaye, Associate Director of Cell and Molecular Biology who played an important role in the establishment of relationship between both universities.
According to a 3 days intense plan, the University of Sulaimani delegation visited Arkansas university research centers and various scientific departments, they were welcomed by the Deans and head of departments and both sides discussed academic & scientific cooperation especially at the level of PhD projects.
University of Sulaimani delegation visited the Biology & Microbiology center and Department of Biological Sciences and met with Professor Steven J. Beaupre, Professor Douglas Rhoads and their colleagues. Then they visited Biochemistry research center and met Professor Dr. Daniel Lessner.
Microelectronics-photonics (µEP) graduate program and met the director, Professor Dr. Rick Wise.
University of Sulaimani delegation visited Spring International Language Center (SILC) which is one of the best English language centers for international students in United States and met Dr. Leah Bergman and colleagues. The University of Sulaimani delegation members were impressed by the facilities and their teaching methodologies; therefore an agreement was signed between University of Sulaimani language Center and SILC.
Then they visited Institute of Nanoscience and Engineering which has got the most advanced Nanoscience laboratories with the latest equipment and technology; and met with Professor Dr. Mourad Benamara. Then they headed to Graduate and International Admissions, International Recruitment, Graduate School and International Education and met the director Lynn Mosesso and her colleague Gloria Flores.
They also visited the very advanced NMR Laboratory and met Professor Kumar, where he explained their research topics.
University of Sulaimani delegation held meetings with Dean, Associate Dean and head of departments of College of Engineering: Professor Ashok Saxena, Professor Norman D. Dennis, Professor Manuel Rossetti, Professor Hameed Naseem and others.
University of Sulaimani delegation then visited Department of Geoscience and met head of the department and several professors.
University of Sulaimani delegation also visited high performance computing center and met Professor Jeff Pummill.
In the final day of the visit, University of Sulaimani delegation met with Arkansas University President, Vice-Presidents and Director of International Students and Scholars. During the meeting, academic and scientific cooperation were discussed and the Arkansas University officials extended their support to University of Sulaimani researchers.
Meanwhile, President of University of Sulaimani Prof. Dr. Salahalddin Saeed Ali expressed his pleasure in collaborating with Arkansas University and thanked them for their hospitality; and after exchanging presents, cooperation agreements were signed by both university Presidents.
