A delegation from the Sustainable Development Goals Network (SDGs Network) visited the University of Sulaimani on November 6, 2023 to discuss potential collaboration on advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS) in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The SDGs Network, comprised of 50 non-governmental organisations, work together to promote practical solutions for sustainable development.
The delegation met with Professor Dr. Kosar Mohammed Ali, the President of the University of Sulaimani, and Dr. Arsto Nasir Ahmed, the Director of Ranking at the University of Sulaimani. The meeting focused on the challenges and opportunities for achieving the SDGs. The delegation expressed their interest in establishing a partnership with the University of Sulaimani to perform activities that aim at advancing the SDGs.
Professor Dr. Kosar Mohammed Ali welcomed the delegation and thanked them for their visit. He said that “the University of Sulaimani is committed to promoting the UN SDGs and to collaborating with the SDGs Network and other partners to address the pressing issues facing the region and the world”. He also highlighted the achievements and initiatives of his institution in various fields of sustainable development.
Dr. Arsto Nasir Ahmed emphasised the University of Sulaimani’s commitment to promoting sustainable practices and suggested developing mutual policies and strategies and signing a memorandum of understanding between the two partners on their collaborative work on the SDGs in a subsequent meeting.
